The Hamptons: Edmonton’s Most Popular Neighbourhood for Families

According to a recent City of Edmonton Census, The Hamptons, in the west end of Edmonton, has the highest “under 14″ population in the city. With today being family day, I thought I’d share our video that explains some of the reasons The Hamptons is so popular with young families.

The Hamptons is conveniently located in the west-end, just off of the Anthony Henday and 62nd Avenue, this is a prime location to enjoy a quiet suburban life. And eventhough The Hamptons is on the edge of the city, the daily commute to work in and around Edmonton quick via Henday Dr and Whitemud Dr.

Sorry, I don’t have audio on this computer. So I will have to comment without watching the video first.

Hamptons is “popular” with young families, simply because most of the lots are released during 2005~2008, the inter-provincial migration boom. It’s no surprise that people in their 20s ~ 30s moved here. The other new neighborhoods are either slightly before or after the boom or just a bit more expensive.

So, it’s more of a “luck” thing, rather than the neighborhood having anything special.

I don’t know about this… the schools might be nice and all, but I’ve taken a couple good drives through and found the neighbourhood to have all the charm and warmth of a trailer park. The neighbourhood felt isolated, the houses in many parts are jammed together, and having checked out MLS listings for dozens of houses in the area, the craftsmanship on SFHs in the 350-400K range looks pretty unimpressive (to say the least.) But, uh… Costco is nearby? And so is River Cree, if that’s your bag!
