New Home Construction in Edmonton Still on the Rise

CMHC released their "Housing Now" report today. I'm just going to give the brief highlights and then get back to our Christmas celebrations…

  • Total housing starts across Greater Edmonton have increased on a year-over-year basis for the fifth consecutive month.
  • More than 2.5x more single family homes were started in November '09 than '08
  • Year over year single family home construction is up 43%
  • Multiple unit starts increased to 333 units in November compared with 55 units in November of last year.
  • Condo inventory is decreasing as completions were outpaced by absorptions for the second month in a row, but condo inventory is still more than double that of last November

I wonder how the freezing cold weather will affect things for December? We'll have to wait and see…

PS – the weekly stats won't be posted until Saturday.

Some great highlights from the report! Thanks for sharing.

The one statistic that says that single family home construction is up 43% year over year is amazing.

This is a great sign to see.

Keep up the great work with your blog!
