The market gobble gobble

I never know what to expect on Thanksgiving.  Sometimes it's dead and sometimes it's crazy busy.  Most likely it has to do with what I'm working on – if I have out of town buyers with me then its nuts, but generally there's not too many requests for showings.  Well not this weekend.

We celebrated thanksgiving with a non traditional-feast with friends and family on Saturday which in itself was a challenge.  Sara missed the previous two days of work with the flu and was not sure if we were going to be able to have people over.  I left the house at 5:40 in the morning to get my daughter to swimming and begin my appointments.

I started my next set of showings, and dealt with offers after of course stopping by Starbucks for my usual chai latte.  By 1pm I'm heading to deal with an offer after wrapping up my second set of showings after which I'm heading by Paddy's for some cheeses for dinner and appetizers.

I show up with the final grocery order at 3pm to Sara and my daughter cooking up a strom.  I picked up some amazing cheeses at Paddy's – of course I thought I was done but I forgot to get the one cheese I was sent for so off I went to Sobey's to get the Gorgonzola.

All in all it was a crazy weekend.  When I was showing on holiday Monday I left Dovercourt and it was cloudy and chilly by the time I hit King Edward Park it was a full out blizzard.  When I finished showing in King Edward Park it was absoultely beautiful.

For most of the year I had been saying that I was most interested in seeing how the market  in Edmonton would perform in September and October to see if we were in fact out of the slide or if the previous few months were just a dream.  In a nut shell if the sales dropped off the charts today like they did in September 2007 and October 2008, I'd still say the year was amazing just  in comparison to those last two years.  On its own this year is starting look like a very decent performer in its own right.

However, some people never learn  – while fundamental investors have been in the market for a long time now, I've noticed increased interest by some speculating type buyers (people who are looking to buy new now counting on them to appreciate).

Time will tell if these Turkey's get roasted or not.
