The Rookie, The Pro and the Mountain of snow

A little skill goes along way!

Img_0996Recently the office once again abandoned me to get some much needed R and R. I am a firm believer that people deal with things best when they’re “fresh” or have their batteries fully charged.  Every now and again everyone needs a little recharge so to speak.  So when a good friend of mine called me for the 11th year in a row to go snow mobiling a couple of weeks ago, to his surprise I said “I’m in”.  I’m sure he was positive that he would receive the usual, Img_0998_3 "No".  Or maybe he was just hoping I’d say no.

It’s not that I don’t like motorized recreational activities.  Many of my friends are Harley enthusiasts, love their quads and they love sledding. I own none of the above.  According to Sara I’m not allowed to own a Harley. For me it’s simply been about priorities and time and it’s just lower on my list of things that are important than some other people.

Img_0992 So anyway, we headed up to Valemont (about an hour west of Jasper) to go sledding, and for the first time in months I found myself thinking the real estate market is a good place to be (compared to rolling down a mountain).

To be an honest novice, there are some things that you can pick up quickly, but nothing I could do could match the experience of the really experienced sledders I was with.  My inexperience was especially obvious wImg_1002ith the skimpy snow conditions that existed.  It’s pretty clear from the pictures that my expertise lays in another area. After the abuse my friend’s machine took from me riding it, I wonder if he’ll call next year or lose my phone number in the trees with his sled.

Morale of the story – a little bit of skill can keep you out of a lot of trouble especially when conditions are tough.
