Happy New Year!

Edmonton_fireworks_6261_sq_mediumWhatever you believe or however you celebrate the New Year we hope you have a memorable and safe one.

A couple of side notes.  There was no weekly update because we are on vacation, and we figured with Christmas and Boxing Day last week the activity would be minimal. Incredibly the market has not slowed down as it has in past years in terms of activity.  We’ll keep the blog up to date as much as possible.

    Happy New Year everyone…….!!!

Just got back from Rio to find yellow tape and 3 cops cars at a west end DT high rise 2 blocks from my place……yep….it’s safe here alright.

Calgary prices are now down 12.3% from the May 2007 highs……a $63K bullet…….wonder how much CMHC is underwater ?

Nice to have a noticeable police presence. If it were parts of Rio, would there be any police presence? Maybe you should have stayed there, if it is so safe. I just love your pessimism.

Carioca, of all the possible things, you picked CRIME to compare Rio to Calgary?

As of 2007 the homicide rate of the greater metropolitan area stands at nearly 80 victims per week, with the majority of victims falling to homicide, assault, stray bullets or narcoterrorism. In 2001 the murder rate in Rio was 45 for every 100,000 people and between 1978 and 2000, 49,900 people were killed in Rio. The numbers are comparable with war conflict zones like Baghdad and Kabul.

But next you’re going to tell us how cheap everything there is, and it’s worth living in a $50k apartment because of the beautiful weather and cheap beer and smokes.

Edmonton is perhaps more violent than other major Canadian cities. But if you’re trying to say that Rio is a safer place to live, you’re just making yourself look like a joke.
