We recently purchased a couple of portable GPS navigation systems and my clients love it. Aside from the more expected uses for out of town clients who can use it to find their way around Edmonton, my in town clients love it too.
When I’m showing properties to my clients, I bring along my GPS and at each property I can tell them how long it will take them to get to work from the home, exactly where the closest schools, parks and shopping are located, what the best route to take to get to just about anywhere with a tap of the screen. It gives an instant visual of where we are located, and what is around us.
I am generally an early adopter when it comes to new technology, but I don’t buy technology just for technology’s sake. When I do find something that will help out my business or my clients I will invest in it and the portable GPS is awesome. Since it’s a small unit my out of town clients can put it in their pocket or purse and take it with them while they stay in Edmonton, and never get lost when we set up a meeting point, or when trying to get to their hotel or our office.
We’re also the first company in Edmonton (that I am aware of) that is using a tablet PC. This means I can write up an offer immediately after viewing any property, sign the documents right on the tablet and send it to the appropriate parties immediately. My clients also have access to all their documents through an online vault, and can allow their mortgage broker, lawyer or anyone else they choose to have access as well. This means no last minute calls from the mortgage broker’s office looking for a copy of an accepted offer when I’m not near a fax machine….they can just logon and get the documents whenever they need them.
All this technology makes my life, and my clients’ lives easier.

cool
Provincial royalty on the oil sand is good topic. I want to know what you think on how this thing affects our housing.
What do you expect to see from our government?
Good idea Sara.
Last year I moved in Edmonton and I bought a GPS so I know it is very important for people moving here, and also it is easy to find shopping centers and other Point of Interest (POI)
One warning: You need to update your gps’ point of interset (POI) in order to get the latest information because sometime information in gps are outdated and especially with the boom in construction it looks that it takes time to process new information. So you might get not the best results.
One day I was looking for Safeway location and it show me one not very close, when I knew that Safeway is just accross the corner. The issue is that it is not listed yet in my gps map.
Have you been using the TomTom One? It looks like that is what it is from the picture… I have used it too and really enjoyed it. I love how simple it is.. it only took me about 10 mintutes to set it up and I was ready to go. Glad its been helpful with your business!
Yeah these are cool devices, and became affordable now a days. I am happy to learn that technology is being used wherever possible to improve the service and enhance the business.
Your technology impresses me. It does seperate you from the pack.
