Condo Developer Antes Up

Project_century_1ProCura, the developer of the Century Park development on the south side (where the old Heritage Mall used to be) wants to build bigger towers. Originally they had proposed 32 story towers but the city approved only 24 stories, about two years ago. Now, with construction underway they’ve made a new proposal to the city: if they are allowed to build the towers 29 stories high, adding 380,000 square feet to the overall project they will build an $8 million art gallery, and provide $2 million endowment to keep it running.

So… what do you think?

I’m conflicted…on one hand I think adding art to this city in anyway is always a good thing. Plus, since there was a mall there before the area should be used to plenty of traffic. On the other hand, ProCura already made their proposal, and everyone got to have their say and in the end an agreement was reached. If the city now goes ahead and approves the increase, does every neighbourhood have to worry about what developers will re-negotiate with the city?
